IMM at work in Peru

In 1995 IMM first visited the high Andes mining areas of central and southern Peru.

IMM USA presently supports two missionaries in Cerro de Pasco (at 14,500' elevation, the highest mining town in the world) in central Peru where an ever widening and very deep mining pit is surrounded by hundreds of homes and mine related industry. Churches here are weak, but IMM's support has enabled missionaries to strengthen the church and start new ones. The leadership at Huanuco Bible Institute in Huanuco act in an advisory capacity for IMM and its workers. IMM also provides scholarships for two students taking Bible courses there.

In southern Peru, IMM USA supports five missionaries, some of whom live in Arequipa, Peru's second largest city (at 8000' elevation). Catholicism is strongly entrenched in this very dark area of Peru spiritually, and this leads to great resistance to the Gospel and persecution of Christians. Each of IMM's five missionaries is mature, committed men, and they often travel great distances to build up the church in remote areas and encourage people in their faith. Weak churches sometimes resist Bible truths and doctrines that don't suit their life-style, for example in the high altitude Salinas salt and borax mining area five hours by dirt road from Arequipa. The missionaries who travel faithfully to places like this really need our prayers.
